20 Days of Summer School: Keeping Our Homeschool Skills Sharp

As the school year comes to an end, many homeschooling families like ours are faced with the challenge of keeping our children's skills sharp during the summer break. This year, we have decided to implement a 20-day summer school program for GLL, to ensure that he continues to learn and grow during the break.

Why Summer School?

Summer break is a time for relaxation and fun, but it's also important to prevent the dreaded "summer slide" - the loss of academic skills and knowledge that can occur when students are out of school for an extended period of time. By providing GLL with structured learning activities for 20 days, we can help him retain the knowledge he has gained throughout the school year and even make new discoveries.

What Will GLL Learn?

Our summer school curriculum for Our Guy will focus on reinforcing core subjects such as math, reading, and writing. Each day, he will engage in a variety of activities that are both educational and engaging, such as:

  • Math Challenges: GLL will work on arithmetic tables such as multiplication and division and word problems that require critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Reading Comprehension: Our Guy will get 30 minutes several times a week (longer than 20 days) to read a variety of age-appropriate fiction and create a Powerpoint presentation as a book report. We hope to have him read 3 books over the summer.
  • Writing Prompts: GLL will have the opportunity to express his creativity through writing prompts and storytelling exercises.

In addition to these core subjects, we also plan to incorporate fun and interactive activities such as art projects and outdoor exploration to keep Guy excited about learning.
